Antiques in a "Antique," Fine Dining Tea House, 813 Macon Avenue, Canon City, CO 81212

History of this old 1889 Victorian, three story structure, which has been turned into a Fine Dining Restaurant and Antiques/Tea Treasures Store.

The structure was built in 1889, from a set of real house plans, one of the first ever submitted to the City of Canon City.  William McClure, a real estate investor had just finished building the McClure Hotel, 4th and Main Street, CC.  He decided to build a home for his wife Elizabeth and his ten children.

Built on a prison stone foundation, as a double brick construction it has weather all those years well.

The structure went through many owners, was everything from a college dorm to rental units, resulting it being very run down.  We purchased it in 2001 and began to work on it in 2002, opening the fine dining tea house 12/17/08.

We have served many special events, volunteer the facility for a number of fund raising events, intimate weddings, receptions, as well as a large number of annivesaries, birthdays, special occasions.

In September, 2011 we opened the Antiques/Tea Treasures Retail Store, in one of the less used tea rooms.  In October, 2011 we started the online store, http://store.thecanoncityqueenanne.com and the consignment services for customers desiring to sell an antique/tea treasure.

We hope to have our digital sign display operating for the tourist season this year, as well as being able to do a better job in visually telling our story and showing off the antiques, tea treasures for sale.  More later on that.

Reservations are requested for Afternoon/Lunch Teas, 11:00-2:00 p.m. and necessary for High/5 course Dinner Teas, 6:00 p.m., Monday-Saturdays; Sundays reserved for special parties.

Reservations: (719) 275-5354, reservations@thecanoncityqueenanne.com.

Dedicated to Brian McGee;
By BLOG - Queen Anne Antiques/Tea Treasures | February 16, 2012 at 04:20 PM EST | No Comments

Cancer. Just the one word changes a life, family, friends and everyone around the individual. For our family the word arose a week ago and became a nightmare on Tuesday evening.

Brian McGee is our son’s, brother-in-law, he’s 48 years old and as of this past Tuesday surgery he has been informed that cancer is in almost all of his internal organs. We were praying for a kidney tumor to be removed and healing to begin. Now, we are told he has stage four cancer, with four to six months of life.

Devastating is an appropriate word to describe how the news affects everyone, those close and those with limited relationships.

Brian is a school teacher, sports coach, thus, it will affect the next generation, as well as his children, grandchildren, mother, sister.

Brian is a good man and unfortunately he lost his father, Stan, to heart problems, when Stan was sixty years old. I turn sixty-six in a couple of months and I realize what a blessing those six years has been (yes, i am spoiled by my wife, others, even our customers, however i can see a blessing in having this time, smile.)

As Brian begins his remaining journey, with an assurance that he will be with his father, his best friend, in the near future, he will undoubtedly affect many lives and we know his faith will be a strong partner in his journey.

We remain committed to supporting our daughter-in-law, Tina, as she deals with the loss of her only brother and we will pray for Pat, Brian’s mother, as she faces the loss of a son, after the loss of husband. We are so grateful for Bill, Pat’s husband now, a very special man, loving, patient and kind, we are sure he will be of value to all the family.

Brian, we love you, we honor and respect you, we know you are gifted to be able to walk this journey, please just let all of us know how we can be of support. Sheryl, do not worry, enjoy these precious days.

For this one blog, please take a minute to reflect on the blessings and gifts that all of us have, especially if we have our health and a hope for the future.

Please lift Brian up, in prayer, please don’t let this be another activity, but let it be a mission to be faithful in keeping others ahead of ourselves.

Al

Jade is an ornamental stone. The term jade is applied to two different metamorphic rocks that are made up of different silicate minerals:

  • Nephrite consists of a microcrystaline interlocking fibrous matrix of the calcium, magnesium-iron rich amphibole mineral series tremolite (calcium-magnesium)-ferroactinolite (calcium-magnesium-iron). The middle member of this series with an intermediate composition is called actinolite (the silky fibrous mineral form is one form of asbestos). The higher the iron content the greener the colour.
  • Jadeite is a sodium- and aluminium-rich pyroxene. The gem form of the mineral is a microcrystaline interlocking crystal matrix.

Cut Glass Lead Crysal Punch Bowl with Platter, $1300.00, FREE Shipping.
By BLOG - Queen Anne Antiques/Tea Treasures | February 08, 2012 at 08:10 AM EST | No Comments

This is the most Beautiful cut glass lead crystal Punch bowl or Fruit bowl with platter I have ever seen, this 2 piece set is very large in size and the pictures  do not even do it justice!   This was made back in the early 1900's  when they were handmade by master craftsman, either Hand blown or blown into molds.  I do not claim to be a expert in cut glass but I have done allot of research on this. It appears to be American Brilliant Period cut glass 1876-1917, although it does not have any marking or etched signatures which also leads me to believe it to be ABP.  It does have a very interesting history, along with the other glass companies of that era.

Weight - Is very heavy both pieces together wiegh 25 lbs

Condition - Bowl is in Excellent condition, it has the nice ring that cut glass will have, No Chips or anything. Platter is in good condition, there is a few small chips on the bottom, no cracks.

Size - Punch bowl is 17 1/4" wide x 7"  high, Platter is 22 1/2" wide.

Price - $1300.00, plus CO tax, if picked up; online at http://store.thecanoncityqueenanne.com, FREE  Handling and Shipping (Insured.)

February 7, 2012, Preparing for Queen Anne Special Valentines Events
By BLOG - Queen Anne Antiques/Tea Treasures | February 07, 2012 at 03:43 PM EST | No Comments

As the days wind down and the closer we get to our weekend of Special Events for Valentines, I always think about the men who have not realized how important Valentines is to most women.

Valentines begins early as most little girls get their first Valentine from their father, grandfathers and then their first boy friend.  There is a magic that goes on when a father honors a young girl, no matter what the age.

He begins the positive awareness in how special she is and it will carry through to her first boy friend valentine, which I believe girls keep for a very long time.

So father's set the stage for boys to be received with love at Valentines.  I sometimes wonder if fathers and boy friends realize what a gift that is....

Don't forget those lovely young girls, who have grown into beautiful women, make this Valentines special.
